Service Delivery
Praxis School. Inc. will provide interdependent, citywide education and training opportunities for urban youth ages 14-21 throughout the City of Denver. Praxis School functions much like a virtual university with youth-friendly neighborhood sites and outreach services that offer a wide variety of workforce-related and academic assessments, responsive instruction, and dynamic connection to community. Praxis School neighborhood sites offer courses and tutorials in math, reading and writing literacy and leadership training. Some of these instructional opportunities offer vocational certification/credentialing (ServeSafe, CPR, pre-apprenticeship in construction trades).
Specifically, some of the instructional opportunities include:
- Mathematics through Cognitive Tutor and Rethinking Math Curriculum
- Reading and writing literacy, ACCUPLACER and GED preparation through individual instructors, Wilson Reading, and other individualized programs to support struggling readers and writers
- Job readiness training and Career Exploration
- Supervised and subsidized work experience that includes Summer Youth Employment Program and Governor's Summer Job Hunt
- Leadership development through an innovative Youth Leadership Institute
- Support with the Individual Education Program facilitation (IEP) inclusive of Transition Plans and associated community based services for youth with disabilities in collaboration with DPS and other experts in the community (Colorado Options)
- Computer literacy through Open Media Foundation, Inc. that supports the development of basic and intermediate computer skills, as well as web design, multimedia production and overall technology training
Praxis School works with the community college system, area non-profits, youth shelters and family housing projects, and governmental agencies to reach youth in their neighborhoods and to serve them with responsiveness, flexibility and accountability based on research-based education and workforce training models.
